Elbow news (2)Elbow - Build A Rocket Boys! Review 18-03-2011 | 0 comments The shelves of your local newsagent currently offer at least one unlikely sight. A chubby, bearded man in a suit stares out from the cover of Britain's biggest-se lling music magazine. His face, which ... read more » The Seldom Seen Kid Review 20-03-2008 | 0 comments The Seldom Seen Kid is the new album from Mancunian rockers Elbow. | Or Who Are You - And What Have You Done With Elbow? A lot of bands come roaring out of the blocks full of youthful passion and claiming to be in it 'for the long haul'. They make a great debut album and then stall or run out of gas. elbow have done it the other way round. Not that they're exactly the Buena Vista Social Club of rock'n'rol |

10,981 posts | rhythm melody instruments lyrics vocal Song comment @ Great Expectations this... is just about as perfect as music gets. Elbow are by far my favourite band but this is beyond even their high standards. Guy's vocals are perfect here, and tell a story that shifts effortlessly between reality, fantasy and metaphor blurring the line between them. one of those songs where they take a small and seedy story and turn it into something magnificent and beautiful. the open end is only fitting, an expression of a commitment that doesn't end. even though in this case maybe it never began. permanently one of my very favourite songs. it's special to me. |

10,981 posts | rhythm melody instruments lyrics vocal Song comment @ Fugitive Motel it's a gorgeous song topped off by perfect vocals from Guy Garvey, especially on this part: 'I'm tired' I said 'You always look tired' she said 'I'm admired' I said 'You always look tired' she said you can practically hear him draw himself up with pride on the "admired" line then ruthlessly cut himself down with that last line in the persona of the woman he's talking to. beautiful sad song, the chorus says it all. |
