 Ah, the 80's... Bandanas, jeans & sweaters around your shoulders... Elsa & Glenn Medeiros. During summer 1988, their duet "Un Roman D'Amitié" has been N°1 of the Top 50 during 6 weeks, the hit of all a generation. The end of the holidays came & 23 years later, we're asking this question : what have they become ?
They were both cute. 2 baby stars who met thanks to... Jean-Pierre Foucault. On March 23, 1988, Glenn Medeiros, whose first N°1 hit has been "Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You", has been the "sacred surprise" of Elsa, who has been on top with her first 7" "T'En Va Pas". The Hawaïan singer met her during TF1's mythic show. They got together & their producers would join them on a duet. "Un Roman D'Amitié" was born, the slow entered the Top 50 on July 11, 1988 & has been N°1 during 6 weeks. Not crazy ! Watch the video for "Un Roman D'Amitié" with Glenn Medeiros (1988) here. On June 27, 1988, 3 months after their meeting, Jean-Pierre Foucault invited the 2 artists again, to perform their duet. No, it wasn't a love story that ended in the water... But real friendship. Did they write to each other ? "No. (laughs) We recorded the duet, then the English version, shot the video, but it stopped there. I was a fan of him during his hits, but he went back to his country & recorded albums again... (smile)" Elsa Lunghini (her real name) said during an interview in 2006. Glenn Medeiros went back to Hawaï & other hits followed : "Lonely Won't Leave Me Alone" (N°13 in 1988), "Never Get Enough Of You" (N°30 in 1989), "She Ain't Worth It" with Bobby Brown (Whitney Houston's former husband). As for Elsa, she continued her singing career until the mid-90's. Her second album Rien Que Pour Ça..., Douce Violence & her fourth album, lauded by critics, Chaque Jour Est Un Long Chemin in 1996, maybe her most beautiful album. In the 2000's, De Lave Et De Sève in 2004 & her self-titled album in 2008 have been less successful, despite great songwriters, from Étienne Daho to Emmanuel Da Silva (don't forget her live album, recorded at Paris' Européen, Connexions Live). Each year, Elsa appears at the concert of Les Enfoirés (her latest appearance has been in 2007). Marlène Jobert's niece is also an actress : her first film has been "Garde À Vue" with Romy Schneider & Lino Ventura & she has been seen recently in "La Maison Des Rocheville", aired on France 2 in 2010. Watch the video for "Oser" (2008) here. Glenn Medeiros, now 40 years old (married, 2 children), became a teacher in Kauai, his native island. In 1992, he released a duet with the dark-haired boy Thomas Anders (Modern Talking), only for the German audience. "Ultra Brite" smile, perfect haircuts & colored shirts, the 2 singers released "Standing Alone", a kitsch song that only reached the place N°74 in Germany.
