One of Elton's best. Bernie's lyrics, which are often dubious at best, are probably at their peak here, although clunkers like "Levon sells cartoon balloons" and "Jesus wants to go to Venus" are still everywhere, as well as ridiiculous imagery. But with Rotten Peaches, he manages to have only one banal couplet (Rotten peaches rottin' in the sun) and does well through the rest of the song. Elton's melodies are superb, as is his voice. This is one of his darker albums, but that's not to say it's devoid of light. Generally amazing.
