Fall Out Boy Ready 'Bizarre' New Songs, Still Wear

Attention guyliner lovers: your favourite boy-crushes in Fall Out Boy have an album's worth of material ready to record and the tightly panted group are going in some bizarre new directions, including penning folk and piano-driven tunes. But don't get your Clandestine Industry emo undies in a bunch over it just yet -- lead singer Patrick Stump says the band isn't ready to record the follow-up to last album Infinity on High.
"There's lots of really bizarre ideas on there, everything from folk to ... actually, I was experimenting with piano phases, like Steve Reich, the composer," Stump tells Billboard.
While it sounds like the band is tampering with more than just long, cheeky song titles for their next record, Stump says along with "some weird stuff" the album is "probably just gonna be a pop record."
And you won't be able to get your mitts on any new material for awhile as the band is still riding out singles from Infinity on High, including the recently released tongue-twister "I'm Like a Lawyer With the Way I'm Always Trying to get You Off (Me + You)."
"I don't really feel like we're done with this one yet. I feel like its still in its cycle. There's a lot of songs on it I'm really proud of. I don't think we have one really monster hit on this record like 'Sugar,' but there are a lot of really strong individual songs," Stump explains to Billboard. "If a song is effective enough it'll work as a single, and I think we have a lot of effective songs that aren't necessarily monsters."
Meanwhile, Stump has been keeping busy with Fall Out Boys tour and with producing the new Cobra Starship album. He also recently filmed a guest starring roll on Law & Order, which will air in February.
