| Song lyrics |
I comb the crowd and pick you out.
My mouth moves too fast for you to figure it out.
It starts eyes closed to fingers crossed,
“To I swear, I say.”
"To I swear, I say."
To hands between legs, to “whatever it takes,”
To drinks at the club to the bar,
To the keys to your car,
To hotel stares/stairs to the emergency exit door.
No.
To the love, I left my conscience pressed,
Between the pages of the Bible in the drawer.
“What did it ever do for me?” I say.
It never calls me when I'm down.
Love never wanted me,
But I took it anyway.
Put your ear to the speaker,
And choose love or sympathy,
But never both.
Love never wanted me.
“I hoped you choked,
And crashed your car.”
Hey “tear catcher”, that's all that you are,
Ever were,
From the start.
I swear, I say. (I swear, I say.)
To hands between legs, to “whatever it takes,”
To drinks at the club, to the bar,
To the keys to your car,
To hotel stares/stairs, to the emergency exit door.
No.
To the love, I left my conscience pressed,
Between the pages of the Bible in the drawer.
“What did it ever do for me?” I say.
It never calls me when I'm down.
Love never wanted me,
But I took it anyway.
Put your ear to the speaker,
And choose love or sympathy,
But never both.
To the “love” I left my conscience pressed.
Through the keyhole I watched you dress,
Kiss and tell.
Loose lips sink ships.
To the “love” I left my conscience pressed.
Through the keyhole I watched you dress,
Kiss and tell.
Loose lips sink ships.
To the “love” I left my conscience pressed.
Through the keyhole I watched you dress,
Kiss and tell.
Loose lips sink ships.
To the “love” I left my conscience pressed.
To the “love” I left my conscience pressed.
To the “love” I left my conscience pressed,
Between the pages of the Bible in the drawer.
"What did it ever do for me?" I say.

| i love this song..
but i am mad at fall out boy..
if you listen to take this to you grave and then you listen to from under the cork tree they sound really differant
im still trying to convince myself that fall out boy is an underground band... but the reality is that they aren't anymore... and that makes me sad just thinking about it....
*story*
me and my friend watched FOB on TRL and we saw them come and stage and we were so angry and sad that FOB was on MTV that we didn't watch any more of it....
they are an awsome band and now they are going to change and be like every other band that's gone mainstream and i just hate to see an amazing band such as fall out boy become popular and change....

the people who listen to fall out boy have changed more than fall out boy has. old fans are pissed because there are new fans, etc. but honestly, they're the same guys, just doing what they love and sharing it with the world. they were never in this for the money, or to get really famous. so while they may become mainstream, they're not going to change or sell-out.
(sorry, but i hate how people hate them now because they're becoming well-known. they deserve it. they've worked themselves to the ground for us.)
and XO is a great song. patrick likes elliot smith, but that may or may not be related to the title. =) | 26-06-2005 21:20 aflackoh6 | 28,546 posts
| Pete also mentioned Elliott Smith in the dedications for his book.
Im not pissed at the old fans, persay. Im pissed at the people that are only into the band for one song and to have Pete/Patrick/Joe/Andy's babies.
Cause thats SO my job. | 26-06-2005 21:21 aflackoh6 | 28,546 posts
| *new fans. not old fans. | 26-06-2005 22:20 aoti | 8 posts
| yes, but those fans are superficial and will either fall in love with another band soon or will realize that fall out boy is, in fact, an amazing band and has more than one song. and everyone i know wants to have peter/patrick/joe/andy's babies: new fans or old. (even some non-fans.) i, however, am not made for baby making. they can have mine. =P (kidding.)
& i haven't read the dedication part cause i'm lazy, but that's awesome. | 02-07-2005 00:56 playback | 13 posts

You can't stop a band from becoming main stream. It just happens. It's not their fault, blame the "fans".
My favorite lyric/phrase.. "Loose lips sink ships". Excellent. | 06-07-2005 13:47 poisened_lips | 44 posts

| In reply to ducky_pickle22:
If you knew something about the band and their work, you would know that the band used their time in the studio to experiment with different sound for their newest album From Under The Cork Tree they tried to make a small move away from Take This To Your Grave and grow musically as a band.
What they have come up with for this album is amazing, and anyone who thinks that FOB is gunna change because they have a vid on MTV needs to learn that unlike bands that record labels throw together like "Simple Plan", FOB is in it for the music, and MTV helps them share their music with a bigger audience.
And for everyone who says that Pete Wentz is a genius and possibly one of the best lyricists:
I completely agree
P.S. This is the best song on one of the best album's I've ever heard | 09-07-2005 18:39 xFallOutBoyx | 16 posts

i know all the "old" fob fans think that all the new ones are all shallow and are only listening to the music because they think that the band is hot..... but really... that just makes the "old" fans shallow i mean they are going to get more mainstream... but that doesnt mean that everyone out there other than the old fans are shallow and only like one song! anyways... i just see that everywhere.. nothing personal

i also hated it when they went on TRL. i've liked fall out boy for a long time and now a bunch of little posuers are gonna be like "omg i love fall out boy they're awesome." it was the same way with me for senses fail, hawthorne heights, and relient k, i liked them before anyone else knew who they were. man this sucks. but anyways FALL OUT BOY ROCKS!!!! | 16-07-2005 14:52 adambrodyrox | 2 posts

i agree with adambrodyrox to an extent, i've loved fallout boy for ages now and now that theyre getting played not only on the tv but in clubs and stuff everyone is all oh have you heard this band fallout boy, sugar we're going down is an amazing song, it just leaves me standing there glaring at them with me screaming name another song by them go on i dare you in my head. but they deserve all the new fans that are proper fans who like not just like the one song, they are an amazing band and they deserve to become popular. i loved take this to your grave, every song on it and was expecting to be dissapointed by from under your cork tree but its even better than take this to your grave, the band have grown loads and its for hte better. this is one of my fave songs on the album | 08-08-2005 16:12 dogabutila | 16 posts
| it happens to everybody.....
i mean....
greenday was a kickass band and they wernt exactly unpopular....but then they get some radioplay and then everybody loves them...and its like...youve been a fan how long?
sad to say tho im one of those bandwagon jumpers this time...friend introduced me to this song cuz he thought i would like it and he was right...now i like the band.... | 10-08-2005 02:58 Chris5691 | 51 posts

it is so annoying how all you anti-mainstream people or what every you want to call your selves you are are making such a big deal about FOB and bands like hawthorne heights and relient k, becoming mainstream and people only likeing them for one song and because they are hot who cares if people like them because of one song there is absolutly nothing you can do to prevent people from likeing a band becasue they are hott and there is nothing you can do to prevent bands from becoming mainstream or what ever you want to call it its gonna happen . you just need to get over it and stop absessing about it.
