AboutBritish pop-metal outfit Feeder was formed in London by singer/guitarist Grant Nicholas and drummer Jon Lee, who first teamed in the Welsh band Temper Temper. Originally dubbed Reel, the new group's line-up was complete with the addition of Tokyo-born bassist Taka Hirose.
After signing to Echo in 1995 Feeder issued its debut EP Two Colours, followed by the six-track Swim; a series of well-received singles -- "Stereo World," "Tangerine" and "Cement" -expanded the trio's fan base further, and in mid-1997 they launched their full-length debut Polythene.
The hit "Day In, Day Out" preceded the release of Feeder's sophomore effort, 1999's Yesterday Went Too Soon. Despite not catching on in America, Feeder maintained their popularity in Europe.
In 2001, after touring the world relentlessly,Feeder achieved their breakthrough hit in the U.K. with "Buck Rogers." The first single from the band's third album, Echo Park, eventually hit number five on the charts.
Before the year's end, the band scored another top 20 hit with the Just A Day EP and hit the road with the Stereophonics.
Tracks for a fourth album were already in the works when tragedy struck. Founding member and drummer Jon Lee committed suicide in his Miami home on the 7th January 2002, after telling his wife he was about to "do something stupid." Twenty minutes before he took his life, Lee phoned Nicholas' mobile phone. The phone failed to recognise Nicholas' friend of 16 years, and he never answered. He was 33, and he left behind his parents, brother, wife and two children and devestated bandmates. Nicholas and Hirose saw it fit to continue with Feeder and resumed recording. The Gil Norton-produced Comfort In Sound was released in October. It was Feeder's best album yet, and the music industry, in a cruel irony, finally sat up and took notice of the band who had been around so long. The songs were filled with fresh pain and emotion, with Nicholas wearing his heart resolutely on his sleeve for tracks like the Lee tribute, and first single "Come Back Around," to the joyous and uplifting second single "Forget About Tomorrow" and the title track.
The final single was the poppy, upbeat "Find The Colour."
An Arena tour followed soon after, and in March 2004, Nicholas and Hirose retired to the studio, to work on their up and coming 5th album. Tumble And Fall, released on January 17th became the lead-off single from the band's 5th album, Pushing The Senses. The album was released on January the 31st, to critical acclaim. It was hailed as the album to finally establish Feeder as true players in the British rock scene. The album was then suceeded by the release of the second single, Feeling A Moment. The third and final single off the album, the title track, was released in July to very little airplay or rotation, and subsequently recieved Feeder's lowest chart position to date, no. 30.
Popular Feeder website, www.Feederfansite.com set up a petition to send to Feeder's label, Echo, to release the Tumble & Fall b-side, a much heavier track entitled Shatter. It was sent after recieving 1000 signatures, and the band soon after announced the release of Shatter along with a track from their last album, Tender as a double a-side. Shatter was incluvded in the trailer and soundtrack for upcoming vampire movie Nightwatch. Feeder are now in the studio, working on tracks for their 6th album, admidst rumors of a split, which they are denying. Due to a medical problem with Grant's vocal chords, the band were forced to postpone pre-Christmas dates. They are now scheduled for March.
2006 saw Feeder release a Singles album, a collection of all their released songs and three new tracks, the handclap-festooned "Lost and Found" with a seizure-inducing video, the spiritual "Save Us" and the rocker "Burn The Bridges". Feeder travelled to Congo with the charity WarChild, with music magazine Q, and the article will detail the events of the trip.
