Garou - Biography

Garou (real name Pierre Garand) was born on June 26, 1972 in Sherbrooke, Canada. At 3, thanks to his father, he started playing guitar, & later piano & trumpet. In his late teens, he was the guitarist of a band in high school & played trumpet during his military service.
In 1992, Garou started playing music in bars & in 1995, he founded his band The Untouchables. In 1997, during a concert of the band, Luc Plamondon was impressed by the singer. Garou played Quasimodo in the musical Notre-Dame De Paris in Paris, Montréal & Londres. In 2000, Garou started his solo career, encouraged by René Angélil, Céline Dion's husband & manager. His first album Seul, released in November 2000, sold 1 million copies. In July 2001, Garou & Ulrika's daughter Emely was born. In October 2002, the French consul decorated Garou "Chevalier Des Arts Et Des Lettres". After his most personal second album Reviens released in November 2003, the singer came back in June 2006 with his third album Garou. On this album, songs were composed by Jean-Jacques Goldman & Pascal Obispo. In 2008, Garou came back with an English album, Piece Of My Soul, with 13 acoustic songs. |
