Lookin' back,
On the memory of The dance we shared, (be)Neath the stars above For a moment, All the world was right How could I have known, That you'd ever say goodbye? And now, I'm glad I didn't know The way It all would end The way It all would go Our lives, Are better left to chance I could have missed the pain, But I'da had to miss the dance. Holding you, I held everything For a moment, Wasn't I a king? But If I'd only known, How the king would fall Hey who's to say, You know I might have changed it all And now, I'm glad I didn't know The way It all would end The way It all would go Our lives, Are better left to chance I could have missed the pain, But I'da had to miss the dance It's my life, It's better left to chance I could have missed the pain But I'da had to miss, The dance |

40 posts | Okay, what made me get out of bed at 5am this morning and get on this particular song to post? It wakes me up every morning and while I've always loved the song because I thought it was a "pretty tune" I never really listened to the lyrics until most recently. I lost with someone I dearly loved a couple of years ago, and I am (foolishly) still mourning him. It ended in a very tragic way and while he is still out there and with someone else, we BOTH knew it had to end. This song tells it all. Thank you Garth for singing it so beautifully... |

SOME(OR MAYBE,SO MUCH) PAIN, BECAUSE I ALLOWED MYSELF TO PARTAKE IN SO MUCH (TEMPORAL)PLEASURE". THE BALLAD "TIM MC GRAW" UNEARTHS THE SAME EMOTIONS IN ME AND, WHEN I HEARD THAT ONE,THEN I THOUGHT OF REPLYING TO THIS ONE. ALSO "YOU'LL THINK OF ME" DEFINITELY FITS IN THE PACK WITH THESE TWO. |

28 posts | This song is a very moving song. the meaning saying if i could have missed the pain, but i'da have to miss the dance. and the I love how they redid the song with the listener's call ins after Dale Earnhardt's death. I found that version of the song and i cried and cried. it just fit that whole time period right then. i had heard the song before then and it was sad, but it was twenty times sadder after Dale's death.
NASCAR lost its greatest driver in the sport and he will be missed. RIP Dale Earnhardt, forever will you be in my heart. |

16 posts | This is one of the deepest songs ever. It not about a literal dance, but rather the experiences and chances we all take in life. Sure our ventures may end in failure, but it's better to have tried and failed and that's what this song is truly about. If you have ever watched the video you would understand the true meaning behind the lyrics. The video depicts John F Kennedy on his fateful car ride through Dallas, the video also shows the space shuttle Challenger and the crew boarding just before it exploded on take-off, and finally Martin Luthor King Jr. is shown in the video giving speeches and being with his family. The meaning is simple, sure these people were all killed, but at least they tried. How many of us can truly say that they have done something this daring and this courageous as Kennedy, the Challenger crew, and Mr. King Jr. I'm sure that if given the chance, each of them would have utter these lines on their death beds. "I could have missed the pain, but I'd of had to miss.... the dance." |

321 posts | I came across the lyrics to this song while surfing the net and thought that it would be great. I immediately found a copy of it and listened. The only word I can think to describe how I felt was disappointment. The lyrics to this song have so much potential but I just can't like this song no matter how much I try. Sorry, absolutely dreadful. |

43 posts | this song is really great anyway, but it has special meaning 4 me. i was at a 4-h chili supper and i danced w/ this guy that i really liked (to this song) and even though i really like him still and we danced, he's never asked me out. the lyrics totally match how i feel. plus, garth always tends to sing songs to their fullest. |
