| Song lyrics |
Three thirty in the morning
Not a soul in sight
The city's lookin' like a ghost town
On a moonless summer night
Raindrops on the windshield
There's a storm moving in
He's headin' back from somewhere
that he never should have been
And the thunder rolls
And the thunder rolls
Every light is burnin'
In a house across town
She's pacin' by the telephone
In her faded flannel gown
Askin' for a miracle
Hopin' she's not right
Prayin' it's the weather
That's kept him out all night
And the thunder rolls
And the thunder rolls
(Chorus)
The thunder rolls
And the lightning strikes
Another love grows cold
On a sleepless night
As the storm blows on
Out of control
Deep in her heart
The thunder rolls
She's waitin' by the window
When he pulls into the drive
She rushes out to hold him
Thankful he's alive
But on the wind and rain
A strange new perfume blows
And the lightnin' flashes in her eyes
And he knows that she knows
And the thunder rolls
And the thunder rolls
*(Some versions may not have this part)*
She runs back down the hallway
And through the bedroom door
She reaches for the pistol
Kept in the dresser drawer
Tells the lady in mirror
He won't do this again
'Cause tonight will be the last time
She'll wonder where he's been
The thunder rolls
And the lightnin' strikes
Another love grows cold, darlin'
On a sleepless night
As the storm blows on
Out of control
Deep in her heart
The thunder rolls

I love this song. I guess this would have to be the song that got me into his music. The whole sweet revenge thing is awesome...but I have noticed in the video (when it aired on VH1) the third verse is edited due to it's content. I didnt really notice it untill I heard the song on The "Double Live" CD, then I loved the song again and said "He diserved it"
Also the whole contiversy over this song was stupid, but this wasent the only song at the time with the same contiversy around it, Janet Jackson had a song that had the same problem. | 10-06-2006 02:20 PerfectByNature | 287 posts

I'm not much of a country type person, but this has to be one of the coolest songs I've ever heard. It's a story about something that has probably happened more than once in the world. It's such a great song, I don't care if I get made fun of for liking it! (As I would at school and what not) but it's a great song. | 06-08-2006 02:35 LunaticGirl_x | 739 posts

I love this song. I first heard it when I was about 5, on the No Fences Album, and I fell in love with it immediately. Since then I've been a HUGE Garth Brooks fan since. I get chills every time I hear it. |
