| I dunno what this song means either. I'm rather good wit' stuff like that, but well, this one's got me a lil "clueless". I mean, I love the song. Gavin has quite the original voice, 'n' his album is awesome. So if anyone has any idea what this song means, lemme know, it'd be greatly appreciated. |

| im not sure what it means but u cant fully appreciate it unless u understand the lyrics so i hope we can figure it out. i get the feeling that it's alot about sorta "being one with the earth". it's talking about how we don't appriacte all the simple things in life, the free stuff like nature. for example in this line. "i said to myself we all lost touch. your favorite fruit is chocolate covered cheries and seedless water melon, nothing from the ground is good enough"
the hard part....what is "chariot", this is the title of the cd so it's pretty important. my guess right now is that chariot=sun. "oh chariot, your golden waves are walking down upon this face." possibly means, the sun is shining on to the world.
i'd love to hear what u guys think of my interpretation and what other people think the song is about.

I think the song is about coming back to what we really are. and i think that the "chocolate covered cherries" thing is about how artifical people are and if he is a christian, salvation is when he accepted christ as his savior or basically became a christian and "chariot" probably represents God
i mean gavin isnt much in the way of looks but his voice is about the sexiest thing i've ever heard |

| I just downloaded this song live and he talks about what the song actually means. He moved from a small town to the city and he felt pretty overwhelmed. The 'chariot' is what he envisions will take him back to the country at some point. Hope this clarifies a tad.

omg i love this song, i think it is one of my favorites on the cd, and the version on his stripped album is awesome... and thanks to the people who've been lucky enough to see him live or heard what he's said about the songs meaning.. because i was wondering about that... whether it be the thing that takes him back to the country or God, it's a little more clearer lol |

hey guys...for all you deep thinkers. Gavin Degraw grew up in a Christian background like me and the song is pretty much saying this world has gotten to complicated and everyone wants proof and won't settle for simple faith...so he just wants to be taken to heaven in "the chariot" like Elijah in the Bible (2Kings2:11) |
