|Gentiana "Genta" Ismajli (born April 12, 1984) is an ethnic Albanian singer from Kosovo. She became famous in Kosovo and other regions with Albanian-speaking populations, with the song "Kthehu" (Come Back) ; she then sang in a TV-show on RTK, Kosovo's main broadcaster.
Only a few months after she was born, she and her parents moved to Chicago in the United States. At the age of 19, she went to back to Kosovo to sing a song, called Dridhem. The song became an instant hit, which ignited Gentiana's music career. She soon relocated to Kosovo with the intention of remaining for good, and has participated in several music competitions, both in Albania and Kosovo. She won "Kënga Magjike" 2005 with the song "S'dua tjetër" composed by Adrian Hila an albanian composer. She got 292 points. The pop group "Aurora" was in the second place, and Flori (a composer, songwriter, singer) was in the third place with 269 points. First Genta's hit was "Kthehu". The video clip was released in America and when she came to Kosovo she was already known as a great singer. Gentiana continued her career in Kosovo for three more years with her boyfriend Milot. She has had great success ; she then went back to America, sometimes to see her parents and came back to Kosovo with many good songs.
Gentiana sings mostly commercial pop songs, similar to other Balkan pop. Lascivious stage movements with challenging clothes are a part of her image. Her closest competitors are Adelina Ismajli, Leonora Jakupi and Nora Istrefi. She is known for her energetic dances, and catchy pop, and hip-hop rythems.
She recently began singing in the English language, recording songs to be released in her upcoming 2008 album, her first all-English album. Many of these songs have been leaked onto the Internet prior to the release of the album. The majority of the songs on the album were written by Kara DioGuardi, a famous American songwriter who has collaborated with numerous famous celebrity singers, such as Britney Spears and Kelly Clarkson. In her interviews,Genta says she wants to be a famous singer, and in America she is working with the most known composers and songwriters.
