George Benson is a Jazz Guitar singer. He is best known for Jazz songs including Breezin', This Masquerade, The Greatest Love Of All, Welcome into my World, Love All the Hurt Away, and many others. He also worked with Miles Davis. His music also plays on The Weather Channel.

Early Childhood years

George Benson was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania USA. When he was 7 years old he played the ukulele at a drug store. When he was 8 years old, he played guitar at Nightclubs but the police shut the club down. When he was 9 years old he released 2 songs "She Makes Me Mad", "It should've been me" His music career interfered with his school work and as a result he got detention and his guitar taken away from him. Later his stepfather made him a new guitar.

Later on Benson attended and graduated from Schenley High School and he learned how to play instrumental Jazz music with an organist Jack McDuff. He admired the musician Hank Garland.

Music Career years

When he was 21 years old, he recorded his first album "The New Boss Guitar", following his second album "It's Uptown with the George Benson Quartet", "The George Benson Cookbook". He later worked for Miles Davis on the album "Miles in the Sky" then worked for Verve Records.

Later on in 1969 he released an album with songs by the Beatles called "The Other Side of Abbey Road" including "Here Comes the Sun", and a version of "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane.

Later on he worked for Warner Bros. Records, and made many songs including an instrumental Jazz song, "Breezin'" and lyric songs including "This Masquerade" which won a Grammy award, Later he wrote the song "The Greatest Love of All" for the boxer Muhammad Ali which is well known today. He also wrote "On Broadway" which is also well known. He also had hit singles including "Love All the Hurt Away" with Aretha Franklin, "Turn Your Love Around", "Inside Love", "Lady Love Me", "20/20", "Shiver", "Kisses in the Moonlight" and many others.

In 1985 he released the album "Stay Tuned" with the song "Sunrise" with Chet Atkins.

In 1990 he won the Honorary Doctorate of Music from the Berklee College of Music.

Marriage

George Benson has married his wife Johnnie Lee since 1965 and has seven children.

Today George Benson is going on music tours.
