And even though the moment passed me by
I still can't turn away 'Cause all the dreams you never thought you'd lose Got tossed along the way And letters that you never meant to send Get lost or thrown away And now we're grown up orphans That never knew their names We don't belong to no one That's a shame But if you could hide beside me Maybe for a while And I won't tell no one your name And I won't tell 'em your name Scars are souvenirs you never lose The past is never far Did you lose yourself somewhere out there Did you get to be a star And don't it make you sad to know that life Is more than who we are You grew up way too fast And now there's nothing to believe And reruns all become our history A tired song keeps playing on a tired radio And I won't tell no one your name And I won't tell 'em your name I won't tell 'em your name Mmm, mmm, mmm I won't tell 'em your name... Mmmmmm I think about you all the time But I don't need the same It's lonely where you are come back down And I won't tell 'em your name |

1 posts | Definitely GGD's best song! I'm pretty sure the song is about his sister who had to raise him after his parents died. Raising a younger brother caused her to miss a big part of her youth and didn't allow her to chase her own dreams. Sad, but awesome! |

110 posts | This is definitley an amazing song, there is no argueing that fact. I have loved it since my friend burnt it to a CD for me last spring. However, personally I think its about a past relationship. He loved a girl and for some reason they split, but he just can't seem to move on: "Even though the moment passed me by, I still can't turn away". He is hurting a little too because the girl had big dreams and somehow after they ended she lost them all and did not become the person she always dreamed she could be. Now that both of them are alone again he says she can hide beside him, he will keep her company and no one has to know.
My favorite line is "scars are souvenirs, the past is never far". It is so true, and fits in with the loss of the girl he loved. He says she has lost who she is, and she grew up way too fast which made her feel like there is nothing to believe, but even though she has lost hope he will still let her hide beside him and no one will have to know. He still thinks about her, but he doesn't need to be broken again ("but I don't need the same"). He says its lonely where she is, without him, and he wants to get back together, even if no one knows. And that folks is my interpretation. |

14 posts | I heard this song on the radio right before I fell asleep, and I thought it was beautiful!! It took me two months to get the song, since they almost never put it on the radio (in two months i heard it just once). Finally, I was just sitting there when it came on, so I tried to remember the first words, typed it on LetsSingIt, and found it! I love this song and the meaning behind it!! it's beautiful!!

8 posts | i didn't know about his partents dying right before he wrote this-that theory may be right- but, from listen ing to it, i just got that he was writing this to a friend that he can relate to, maybe even himself. It's about how dreams die, and magic fades and everything that means something everntually loses meaning. And how sad that is.
"And even though the moment passed me by I still can't turn away 'Cause all the dreams you never thought you'd lose Got tossed along the way And letters that you never meant to send Get lost or thrown away" and this is where the parent's death makes sense: "And now we're grown up orphans That never knew their names We don't belong to no one That's a shame" If you're just tired of life, and having a presonality to lose, if no one knows you, it's less like living life on your own, facing people. "But you could hide beside me Maybe for a while And I won't tell no one your name And I won't tell 'em your name" growing up messed up is hard. You lose what you meant to be, because you can never escape your past. It doesn't matter what you want or want to be, because life will swallow you up in the end: "Scars are souvenirs you never lose The past is never far Did you lose yourself somewhere out there Did you get to be a star And don't it make you sad to know that life Is more than who we are" You jsut end up disillusioned (possibly by parent's death?). or just by life itself. "You grew up way too fast And now there's nothing to believe And reruns all become our history A tired song keeps playing on a tired radio And I won't tell no one your name And I won't tell 'em your name" missing them..missing someone that can relate..someone that's as lost as he is... "I think about you all the time But I don't need the same It's lonely where you are come back down And I won't tell 'em your name" at least that's my impression of it. it's about realizing that everything is meaningless- and that hurts. I love this song |

75 posts | you know, i always assumed this song was about a lost love whom he knew very little about even though they grew up together; because my favourite line "i think about you all the time, but i don't need the same" is kind of like... he has resigned himself to being in love with someone who he knows doesn't really need him the same way...
so thank you everybody for giving throwing a different light on it =), i love goo goo dolls music - of course that i'm half in love with john rzeznik is incriminating, but hey - who can resist a man who sings with such conviction..and writes haunting lyrics? |
