Canadian Gordon Lightfoot first began to gain recognition in the mid-'60s as a songwriter when his compositions "For Lovin' Me" and "Early Morning Rain" became hits for Peter, Paul & Mary, and Marty Robbins topped the country charts with "Ribbon of Darkness." Lightfoot's own style was understated, his tasteful folk arrangements topped by a gentle burr of a voice. His albums began to appear in 1966, but it was not until the start of the '70s that he became a big success as a performer, scoring in...

@ The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald

WOW,YES;WHAT A HORRIBLE MESS

THIS DAY,THIRTYSEVEN YEARS AGO.

The SS Edmund Fitzgerald was an American Great Lakes freighter that made headlines after sinking in a Lake Superior storm on November 10, 1975, with the loss of the entire crew of 29.

@ If You Could Read My Mind

THIS IS A GREAT SONG SO I'M REALLY SURPRISED I'M THE 1ST PERSON TO
COMMENT ON IT.
BEING EMOTIONALLY MOVED BY MUSIC FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE, I'LL
ALWAYS REMEMBER HAVING A "CRUSH" ON SOMEONE(MY 2ND GRADE TEACHER) AND SOMEHOW FEELING IT WAS "UNFAIR" SINCE SHE(OBVIOUSLY) COULDN'T "READ MY MIND",AND THERE DIDN'T SEEM TO BE ANYTHING I COULD SAY OR DO TO GET THE POINT ACROSS. SEE, BEING BROUGHT UP IN A STRICT CATHOLIC FAMILY, I WAS CLUELESS ON HOW, WHEN,AND,WHERE,PEOPLE WOULD,SHOULD,OR, COULD, EXPRESS SUCH FEELINGS OF LOVE, CARE,AND/OR CONCERN FOR ANOTHER HUMAN BEING.

ANYWAY,YOU COULD LOOK AT THIS SITUATION AS BEING SAD OR FUNNY, BUT, THAT EXPERIENCE IS RECORDED IN MY MIND AND,REPLAYS WHENEVER,THOUGH VERY SELDOM, THIS SONG IS BROADCAST.

@ The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald

I first heard this song when I was 9..man..I love this song. It's a bit creepy..just the melody and the whole story. It's a shame that all that happened.

But I did read that there is an error in the song, "The song contains a historical error. The song mentions that the Fitzgerald was fully loaded and headed for Cleveland; she was in fact headed for Detroit."
See, I never knew that before..hmm.

@ Sundown

Wow I love this song - and I like the beat of the hiphop remake. The guitar and the tune make this song feel laid back. But the lyrics are also kinda sad. By the way, Gordon Lightfoot is Canadian!
