Dorothy+ruby shoes+yellow road=wizard of oz.
Love this song, but I'm trying to figure out what it's really trying to say... I wanna know what everyone else thinks! I can get a bit of it, but I think it's really open to interpretation... | 0 @ 31-01-2005 11:52 nattyxoxo | 53 posts

I reckon he feels alone like Dorothy did, and he wants to get out of the place he is in and start again, but he’s to shy. By what he says in the song it sounds like he is too lazy to start a new life. He says “To tell you the truth I've said it before Tomorrow I start in a new direction” I think he really is not happy with his life. But that is just my own interpretation. Guster is an awesome band and I wish there was more recognition for him where I am from. It sucks I can’t talk about them with anyone around me. And I wish they toured in Australia.

The reference is to the wizard of oz, but it also includes the fact that if you start playing the Pink Floyd album "Dark Side of the Moon" at a certain point in the beginning of the movie it becomes perfectly in synch with the film (creepy), but i dont quite understand what this has to do with the song as a whole. Anyway, my take on this song is that he is singing about feeling out of place and not belonging as dorothy did everywhere she went in the other world. But he has been making himself promises to stand up and face adversity with perseverance and bravery, but so far they have been unfulfilled promises. |
