Gym Class Heroes was formed in late 1997 by four high school students. Their first record, For the Kids, released in 2002. After this release, lead singer Travis McCoy won MTV's Direct Effect MC Battle. He was later featured in Styles P's video "Daddy Get That Cash".
Sooner than the album could even be mixed and mastered it landed in the hands of Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy (Island Records/Fueled By Ramen). Before the group knew it, they were in talks with representatives from several record labels and management companies, ultimately signing with Florida based record label, Fueled By Ramen.
On an August 2006 episode of Steven's Untitled Rock Show, Gym Class Heroes front-man Travis McCoy was discussing his involvement in a new Cobra Starship music video. After meeting Samuel L. Jackson on the set, McCoy confided that he came to the following realization: "Wow... I'm just as cool as (Samuel L. Jackson.)" |
