8 posts | The lyrics in this song are powerful, and while it may have a.. wierd meaning to some people, to others it describes a situation they are in, they can't get over an ex-GF or BF and they are in a current relationship but they dont' want to tell their current GF/BF that they are still in love with their ex. 2 posts | I would have to agree with some of the ppl that have wrote in about this song. It does have 2 meanings. He can't seem to get over his ex and he is cheating on his current girlfriend, sorta. Talking on the phone to someone behind your loved one's back really isn't cheating, IMO. To cheat is to have physical contact, Example: kissing, touching, etc. I say this lightly because honestly if my husband (of 12 years) talked to another woman behind my back, I don't know how I would react. But you have to think, if you as the "cheater" were talking on the phone you would be agreeing with me. You as the "cheatee" wouldn't agree with me at all, but if you were doing the same act, then you would agree. So that saying, "What's good for the goose is good for the gander", comes to light. So all in all, this is a very good song, I love it and you just have to put yourself in the guy's shoes. He's still inlove with his ex and he is probably thinking that he moved on to quickly with his current girlfriend and now regretting it.

ell. Hm. To really have an opinion of this song, I have to stand back a little. In my opinion, musically the song is incredible. Otherwise, to be honest, I wouldn't have bothered posting. But that's not really what I'm talking about. The best way I could describe this song is "tragic." Unlike many songs of the day, however, it isn't the melodramatic, teenage whining about relationships that you probably really shouldn't have to begin with. Also, unlike some of the opinions I've read, this song to me does not appear to be "glorifying" the situation, per se, but rather merely a reflection of a common, heartfelt situation. A mirror, if you will. Taken from that standpoint, the song stirs mixed emotions in me. Generally, I am vehemently opposed to cheating. I'm a very monogomous person, and I believe that love relationships should be taken very seriously and regarded with utmost respect and responsibility. However, this song does not really seem to me to be a song simply about cheating; it is far more complex. The way i read it, it is about trying to overcome an old relationship. This, in my opinion, is what makes it so tragic. In this situation, the man must ask himself, should he really have left his old love? If so, should he just simply cut it off? If not, wouldn't it be better to come clean to the new woman and attempt to reconcile with his true love? Really, I think that so far as story goes, this song is incredible. I view this song as a modern-day lyrical version of any Shakespearean work. It is simply a story. Although I must admit, to be the girl in the other room would drive me insane with grief. However, were I to end things with my David, I imagine the story would play out much like this. |
