This song, along with Pretty On The Inside, Miss World, Seether, (By Veruca Salt, check it out it's a good one) Doll Parts, Teenage Whore, and many others inspired me to learn to play guitar, and to stop trying to sound like Amy Lee when I sing. I learned that my real, edgier, less prissy voice could be just as beautiful from Courtney and the comrades. So THANK YOU COURTNEY, KAT BJELLAND, MELISSA AUF DER MAUR, and most of all, KURT COBAIN!!!

| i've no idea of the background of the song, but it seems to me she might be talking about that very boy thing to do (i'm a boy so i know!), to really be mad about a girl, pursuing her etc, but then, when you get her, losing the thrill. the thrill is sometimes in the chase. maybe that's how someone made her feel.
as for the colour-could violet be a distorted/lesser red (red being the colour of love)? i.e. it wasn't REAL passion, or REAL love.

That's an interesting theory, but I don't think everything Courtney Love does or sings about is related to Kurt. I think the song is about people that lust after something, and then when they get it, the novelty wears out instantly, or over a period of time. It's an amazing song and Courtney's voice is so passionate and beautiful., and I think everyone should just appreciate Courtney's music rather than disliking her because they think she fucked Kurt up. If you read the biography, Kurt got Courtney into drugs. Her music is great, and if you disliker her music because you dislike her than you're really ignorant.
