The road is long
With many a winding turn That leads us to who knows where Who knows where But I'm strong Strong enough to carry him He ain't heavy, he's my brother So on we go His welfare is of my concern No burden is he to bear We'll get there For I know He would not encumber me He ain't heavy, he's my brother If I'm laden, at all I'm laden, with sadness That everyone's heart Isn't filled with the gladness Of love for one another It's a long, long road From which there is no return While we're on the way to there Why not share And the load Doesn't weigh me down at all He ain't heavy he's my brother He's my brother He ain't heavy, he's my brother |

5 posts | Actually The Hollies didn't write this song. Neil Diamond actually wrote it for them (hence why he has sung it on occasion). The Hollies version is, in my opinion, the best out there. |

34 posts | I love this song with all my heart!!
but the story behind it is a little different: The Hollies made this song based upon a picture they saw of a girl carrying her brother around during the vietnam war.....it's a very strong song based on a true story! |

18 posts | I've never heard the Hollies sing it, but I have heard Neil Diamond sing it and do a good job with it. Thanks for the story behind it. I always did wonder about the strange title. Overall, a pretty good song. |

6 posts | many years ago, my husband-to-be (but not for many many years to come) told me the story of this song...how it's about a young man who literally carried his own brother around because he couldn't walk on his own...(I forget why).
It was a very inspiring story for our generation, who only seemed to think of ourselves... |
