(WOT News)They shot to the top of the charts across the globe back in 2003 with their debut album, Get Born. Now former Melbourne-based rockers Jet admit their career trajectory – three million copies of their debut sold, before a sudden drop in popularity with second album, Shine On – has been a harsh lesson. The Nic Cester-led rockers are back with a brand new disc, Shaka Rock, which they’re releasing in late August via their own label, Real Horrorshow Records (to be distributed by EMI in Australia).
The’ve also got new management on-board (US industry veteran Allen Kovac, who helms the career of hard rockers Buckcherry ). “You grow up reading those books about [troubled rock bands], and then all of a sudden you find yourself in that cliché. It’s pretty surreal,” remarked drummer/singer Chris Cester, in a new interview.
Shaka Rock is a welcome relief for the band, who admit they almost imploded under the weight of the death of the Cester brothers’ father, drug problems, internal fighting and girlfriend issues. Now, the Aussie band are happy to be back – and thankful for their fans. “There’s a lot of goodwill that I have noticed for our band, a lot of people who really want this to go well, which I’m really grateful for,” says lead singer/guitarist Nic Cester.
“We’re not trying to fool anyone. This isn’t like a marketing campaign. We’re just a good band, and we write good songs and we love what we do.
