Song lyrics
There must be some kind of way out of here,
said the joker to the thief
there's too much confusion,
I can't get no relief.

Business men, they drink my wine,
plow men dig my Earth,
none with a level on the vine,
nobody out of it is worth. hey

No reason to get excited,
the thief he kindly spoke,
there aren't many here among us,
who feel that life is but a joke,
but you and I, we've been through that,
and this is not our fate,
so let us stop talking falsely now,
the hour is getting late.

All along the watchtower,
princess kept the view,
while all the women came and went,
barefoot servants too.

Outside in the cold distance,
a wild cat did growl,
two riders were approaching,
and the wind began to howl.

All along the tower,

All through the watch, all along the watchtower

This track is so prophetic. Jimi was young but so ahead of his time. "But you and I, we've been through that, and this is not our fate, so let us stop talking falsely now, the hour is getting late." We've lost so many, too many, great ones. Keep smoke 'em Jimi.

I love the lyrics, and the song, especially when sang by Michael Hedges, if you haven't heard it you should check it out.

After Bob Dylan first heard Jimi's cover of All Along The Watchtower, he shouted "That's how it was supposed to sound!"

Hey Arizona, eat my shit. This is the greatest song in all aspects. If you knew anything about Jimi Hendrix you would know that this is a cover, and how the hell can you give this song a 3 in lyrics and vocals, IDIOT, Roach Detector u r right, this man was the best, incomparable to anywone other than himself, and i cant believe the critics overlooked the man for such a long period, Selfish Bastards! This song rocks anyway.
It was the first song i ever heard by Jimi Hendrix, I actually heard while watching Platoon, when i was about 7 years old, but i was obsessed. 8 years later i am still exited to hear his music when i get home from school. Jimi rest well in your grave, rest well.
PS If you dont got nothing good to say about sombody dont say it at all ARIZONA

Let's face facts, Jimi was the best guitarist out there. I used to be a huge jimi critic but, I caved to the truth... Jimi was a god. if you listen to the sheer skill, melody, percision, and just overall flow of his music and just understand how difficult that is and the grace he did it with, you'll be ashamed for comparing him to anyone other than his contemporaries and friends. Dave Mathews as NOTHING on jimi. I'm sure if you asked his sorry south african ass about it, he'd admit it. Also, this is Jimi's only "hit". he was a one-hit wonder as far as billboards were concearned. His only song to break the top 10, and it isn't his. Makes me sad to see the way he was overlooked at the time but he's gone now and all we have is his legacy of music.

It's funny that someone mentioned Withnail & I, I've just finished watching it for the bajillionth time and was thinking about this song.

Fantastic, Bob may have written it but Hendrix truly made it his.

I prefer Hendrix's version of this song because he sings and performs it so much better than Dave Matthews Band. His voice just suits the song... top notch.
