| Song lyrics |
After all the jacks are in their boxes
And the clowns have all gone to bed
You can hear happiness standing on down the street
Footprints dressed in red
And the wind whispers Mary
A broom is drearily sweeping
Up the broken pieces of yesterday's life
Somewhere a queen is weeping
Somewhere a king has no wife
And the wind it cries Mary
The traffic lights they turn blue tomorrow
And shine the emptyness down on my bed
The tiny island sags downstream
Cause the life that lived is dead
And the wind screams Mary
Will the wind ever remember
The names it has blown in the past, and
With its crutch, its old age, and its wisdom
It whispers no, this will be the last
And the wind cries Mary

| Hey
I love this song, but I don`t quite get it if you know what I mean? Anyone figured it out? I have figured it out in my own way, but I need a second opinion.

yea...this is an amazing amazing song, but it would be even more amazing if i knew what it means!! anyone want to share their interpretations?
o yea and i gave lyrics a 1 because they're so hard to interpret and nobody really knows what he is saying, so he clearly doesn't effectively get his point across. | 21-12-2005 01:57 drummerdude | 884 posts

well i don't know about the whole song but i found the reference in the lines " after all the jacks are in their boxes and the clownshave all gone to bed" it refers to the image shown on bbc after they sign off for the night, a clown and a girl holding a jack in the box ( thats britan for ya) britain is where he lived, and he wrote this song after an argument one night. thats all i know. one thing many people don't realize is that jimi has an absolutely amazing drummer, mitch mitchell, he's kinda shadowed out by the guitar work | 19-01-2006 01:40 xxPaperwingsxx | 1 posts

What you people aren't doing is you aren't praising Jimi Hendrix for his AMAZING guitar skills. Not only did he teach himself but his guitar//lyrics//everything about him was so influential to all guitar players, such as myself. | 06-02-2006 06:07 MCR_lovr | 717 posts

My Goodness!! Lyrics aren't meant to be interpreted the same way by everyone!!
And no one will ever really know what Jimi meant, because he thought of it!!

this song is really great, and what he is saying is that he is lonely, i mean he was a sexual addict, something alot of pople don't know, he had like 8 girlfriedns, but its just showing how sad he is, he never found a women for himself, i think that he really wanted to find some one to love and this song is tring to show that. RIP Jimi |
