| From what I've read on this subject, John Lennon apparently felt that ever since Sgt. Peper's Lonely Hearts Club Band came out, The Beatles stopped being his band and became Paul McCartney's band. Evidently, John was considered more or less the leader up to that point. John has been quoted on record as complaining, "We got tired of being Paul's sidemen." That's one of the main reasons he's cited for the break-up. Also, it seems that John felt some resentment about Paul rejecting Yoko Ono. So by the time Imagine got released, I guess it was time to let Paul have it. This is all coming from various interviews I've read over time.
