From their early days as a progressive group to their high-flying power-ballad days of the 80's, Journey is by far one of the most popular bands of the AOR period. Their balanced attack of Steve Perry's soaring vocals, Neal Schon's sailing guitar work, and Jonathan Cain's frenzied keyboarding was a great formula of success on such hits as "Don't Stop Believin'," "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)," and "Be Good To Yourself." Their core lineup of Schon, Cain, and Perry are rounded out by virtuoso bassist Ross Valory, and famed fusion drummer Steve Smith. A history of lineup changes, Steve Perry left the band in 1998. Steve Smith left afterwards to continue his jazz career.
Journey now consists of Schon, Cain, Valory, former Bad English drummer Deen Castronovo, and singer Steve Augeri, formerly of Tall Stories and Tyketto. |
