When routine bites hard and ambitions are low
And resentment rides high but emotions won't grow
And we're changing our ways, taking different roads
Then love, love will tear us apart, again
Love, love will tear us apart, again
Why is the bedroom so cold? Turned away on your side
Is my timing that flawed? Our respect runs so dry
Yet there's still this appeal that we've kept through our lives
Love, love will tear us apart, again
Love, love will tear us apart, again
Do you cry out in your sleep? All my failings exposed
There's a taste in my mouth as desperation takes hold
Is it something so good just can't function no more?
But love, love will tear us apart, again
Love, love will tear us apart, again
Love, love will tear us apart, again
Love, love will tear us apart, again

vocal Very easily one of the greatest songs ever written, from one of the United Kingdoms greatest bands. Ian Curtis was an amazing frontman, but his suicide in 1980 was a tragic day for music. If anyone likes Joy Divisions' music then they should check out New Order, who the other members of Joy Division went onto become after the death of Ian Curtis.
i agree that this song is very deep but no way is it the best song ever, Ian Curtis has a terrible singing voice and i think its totally wrong to even suggest that Joy Division are one of the best bands ever.

vocal So beautifully unnerving. Depression, despair and gloom summed up in glacial vocals, distorted synths accompanied by haunting guitar. Flawless.
how dare you say ian has a terrible singing voice he is wonderful!!
but what really annoys me is ian curtis had epilepsy (i cant spell) and comitted suicide but then Kurt cobain goes and kills himself and suddenly the whole world is like he is god i dont understand sure he 'invented' grunge but then Ian started the whole post punk thing he is brilliant and doesnt get half the recognition he deserves

vocal I adore this track, definitely Joy Divisions best and suprisingly 'soft' in a way I cant really describe, compared to their other stuff.

vocal AWESOME SONG, liked it since the first time I heard it.. it's just one of those songs that almost everyone can find a part about the song that they like the most... the lyrics and acoustics go together perfectly

vocal The lyrics are really sad but it adds to the beauty of the song. RIP Iain Curtis. Also, to whoever said that Ian does not have a good singing voice and that Joy Division were not one of the best bands ever - maybe take the time out to actually listen to the lyrics, and increase your post count to the big 2.
I love this song. Disorder is my favourite song of all time though.
One of my favourite songs all time. Joy Division is a band that really means a lot to me. Love will tear us apart has got some great lyrics, Ian's voice is wonderful and the tune is unforgettable.
Ian Curtis will remain forever in my head, in my heart and in my soul.

Joy division is so cool and now i know all there is to know about them and listen to them religiously. If only ian curtis were alive, all would be right with the world!!!!

vocal Funny how everyone comments on one song, same one as everyone else...
Y'know, the lyrics are pretty nifty, but denying that Curtis' voice is kinda off is completely pointless. Does anyone use their ears whilst listening to music? Rare is the occasion on which he'll hit a pitch straight-on. Can you hear it waver around? And no, I'm not just referring to the echo/reverb-type effect that gets added in a lot of their songs.
Really, though, this song is interesting cause of how Joy Division pulls off the contrast between the happy, light guitar sound and the somewhat sad lyrics.
