AboutKamikazee
This band just finished their set and they just left you, exhausted, yet exhilarated, and wanting for more. The experience is brought on by one of the scene's most explosive bands, Kamikazee, and the name speaks volumes of what the band is all about, pure passion and fearless.
Kamikazee's music ranges from the laugh out loud kind to the heartbreaking, with words that speak of rare creativity, unique wit and a collective heart that tells the truth with reckless abandon. Kamikazee is Allan "Bords" Burdeos on drums, Jason "Puto" Astete on bass, Led Tuyay on guitars, Jomal Linao on guitars and second vocals, and Jay Contreras who does his own stunts while on lead vocals, all from the U.P. Fine Arts Department, brought together with a common love for fun, and music which serves as the soundtrack for every prank, problem, break up, and breakthrough. They listen to the likes of Parokya Ni Edgar, Cheese, The Eraserheads, Deftones, New Found Glory, Slipknot and Pantera.
Kamikazee played their first gig in 2000 as "boy band", which led to opening for friends, Parokya Ni Edgar, eventually changing their name to "Kamikazee Cornflakes" later on shortened to just Kamikazee. After months of playing all over for any imaginable crowd, they finally landed their first record deal in 2001. Their self titled debut released in December 2002, included hits like "Chinelas" which went to #1 in 2003, "Ung Tagalog" which was recognized as Best Alternative Recording by the Awit Awards, and their cover of the Britney Spears song "Lucky" which won as Best Music Video at the MTV Pilipinas Awards 2003. In the same year, Kamikazee was the Listener's Choice at the 2003 NU 107 Rock Awards, with Allan Burdeos as the Drummer of the Year. Two years later at the 2005 NU 107 Rock Awards, they were hailed as the year's Best Live Act, proving themselves later that night, with an electrifying performance of "Chicksilog" which was also nominated as Song of the Year.
"Chicksilog" peaked at #1 at NU 107's Midnight Countdown finishing at the #9 spot of their 2005 Yearend Countdown. It also crossed over to other radio stations and the hilarious music video was on regular rotation in music channels like MYX and MTV. In late 2005, Kamikazee unleashed "NARDA", a metaphor for the subject of true love that is tragically unrequited. The single caught on like wildfire and is currently flying to the top of the charts. The "Narda" music video directed by Ace Enriquez recently premiered on MYX with great reviews, making their media presence even more felt. "Chicksilog" and "Narda" are both part of Kamikazee's latest album under Universal Records called "MAHAROT", which best describes the band's playful, restless energy, and wild imagination. The album produced by Jomal Linao and co-produced by Allan Burdeos, Jonathan Ong of Sonic State, 8 Toleran of Cheese, and award winning producer Angee Rozul has 15 all-Tagalog tracks which includes the acoustic version of "Narda".
Don't be fooled by the album cover, Kamikazee has definitely matured musically, evident in all tracks crafted with experience, sacrifice, heart and soul from every single member and the result falls nothing short of alchemy. Get ready to get blown away by this divine wind that is,Kamikazee.
