Song lyrics
It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

(Culture Man speaks)

It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

And as I’m walking through the subway all I feel is everybody’s piercing eyes
I follow in the footsteps all I can imagine is that other guy
You never know maybe she’s afraid
That everything around her is so damn fake
I feel like that we've met before
Hurry boy she's waiting

It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

The sun is rising on east side and every former life is waking up
The feeling of seclusion makes you wanna dream away and fall in love
She drags you in, not afraid
Everything feels like fate
What wrong with you, don’t let her go
Hurry boy it's waiting

It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

Ba da doo ba da doo...

Hurry boy it's waiting there for you
(Down in Africa)

It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
I bless the rains down in Africa
I bless the rains down in Africa
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

(Culture Man speaks)

So sing with me, now sing with me
This is Africa, this is Africa

While I admit his voice is nice to listen to, the rest of the song is sub-standard at best. The attempt I hear from this is Karl Wolf trying to 'modernize' Toto's version of Africa to appeal to the younger audience. All that he accomplished was making the young-older audience cringe. The parts "sung" by Culture-man seems redundant and seems to boast quite heavily on the supposed talent exhibited in this song. Also, there doesn't seem to be a definition of "sacloga" outside of this song, which makes me wonder if this 'originality' that he has is exaggerated heavily. Another thing that hinders this song is the emphasis before every chorus when Wolf is singing is the reference back to Toto's song, when he says "Hurry boy, she's waiting", or "Hurry boy, it's waiting." First off, what's waiting? Sex? Sex comes to anyone willing anyway, so I guess that makes sense. But why this constant referencing? Finally, at the end, he sings "this is Africa". ...What is Africa? As to my understanding, Africa is not the embodiment of sex, if that's what he has been talking about when "it is waiting for you".

On the whole, I think he could have done a good job with the song, if he kept it as it was. There is no shame in making cover songs, Ray Stevens does it a lot, as well as others. Unfortunately, he used whatever originality he had, then (and I'm not afraid to say this) bastardized the original song with what supposed talent he has as a song writer. I would recommend staying away from this song strongly. For those who do like the song, then I recommend listening to Toto's version as well. Perhaps then you know what Karl Wolf did to the song.

I listened to the Toto version and I have nothing wrong with what KW did here. This song is a pleasurable listen, as is Toto's. When he says "hurry boy, it's waiting", could it be that he's referring to the love of one's life, and not just sex?

this song SOUNDS good, i really like how Wolf is vocalizing with himself in the chorus, and his voice in general, but i dont find that the lyrics make any SENSE whatsoever. and that bugs me when i'm listening to it, cuz how can u sing so passionately about somethign that's not making sense?

irritating, but if u let ur mind just focus on how it sounds, it's nice enough.

btw. the vid had nothing to do with the song. >
