AboutKendall Morse was born and raised in Machias Maine in 1934. He graduated from Machias high school and the following year he joined the US Coast Guard. Four years on the bounding main was enough so he left the service. Worked for the state of Maine Dept. of sea & shore fisheries as a Coastal warden. He was Captain of the patrol boat Explorer.
Having been offered a better job with the US Fish & Wildlife service, he worked as an enforcement agent until an injury forced him to retire on disability.
Kendall started playing guitar and singing at an early age, and collecting a large repertoire of traditional songs and Maine humor.
His first recording was titled Lights along the shore released by Folk Legacy in Sharon CT.
His second was titled Seagulls & Summerpeople.
He was named Folk singer of the year three years in a row.And he was inducted into the Maine country music hall of fame in 1995.
Since retiring from the Fish & Wildlife service, he has performed all over the USA and to England, and Scotland.
In 1980 he hosted and co produced a tv series called In the kitchen on public tv. It was basically a showcase for Maine best known humorists, and was shown many times over the years in every public tv station in the country.
As a result of that series, Thorndike press asked him to write a book called Stories told in the kitchen.
In 2010 he was nominated for a Grammy award for his rendition of a Utah Phillips song.
He lost his singing voice to cancer 14 years ago, but, he still tells his stories and he accompanies his wife, Jacqui, as she sings.
His second book," Father fell down the well" is in the works at Island Port press in Yarmouth Maine.
