This track was one of the 3 immediate standouts when i first heard 'X' back in November last year (the other 2 being "No More Rain" and the ballad version of 'White Diamond' a bonus track when purchased from iTunes). Since then Wow, All I See and In My Arms have kinda grown on me, but "The One" is still to me, the best song on the album.
The song is suited to KM's vocals, so much so that they compliment the swirling synths & keyboards to perfection.
The chorus is simple but effective, and verse 2 contains the line "close to touch like Michelangelo" bringing to mind the painting "Creation of Adam". Clever.
But, it's the hook found in the middle 8 "Can you hear me, I'm connecting with you.." which seals the deal. The vocals are spot on, the melody inspiring and the lyrics beautiful..
X seems to be running out of steam, with even the current tour not returning it to the UK top 75, but hopefully, having saved the best 'til last, there's a little bit left yet.
