"Saint Lucy" Lyrics

Song updated, review now!
Tonight I pray
To leave a blind servant
I lost my way
I'm drowning in darkness

The ghouls and demons
Seek to destroy me
I must defeat them
Grant me my reason

St. Lucy, St. Lucy
Give me clarity
St. Lucy, St. Lucy
Lend me my eyes, I cannot see

Sixteen in satin
You chased, refused marriage
With your two fingers
You plucked eyes from your head

The man betrayed you
Stabbing, with sword, your neck
Your spirit saved you
News I received

St. Lucy, St. Lucy
Give me clarity
St. Lucy, St. Lucy
Lend me my eyes, I cannot see

Light for candle
Rosary white, all to bless the water
Cross of wood, incense

Now I see your figure faintly
Glowing like an angel saintly
Held in hands, a copper dish with floating eyes

St. Lucy, St. Lucy
Give me clarity
St. Lucy, St. Lucy
Lend me my eyes, I cannot see

Blind as the bat, black
Your eyes we needed
For years we wandered
Through mazes, aimlessly

Have we not found the silence, the wise key
Have we not found our spirits are saved

St. Lucy, St. Lucy
Give me clarity
St. Lucy, St. Lucy
Lend me my eyes, I cannot see

St. Lucy, St. Lucy
Give me clarity
St. Lucy, St. Lucy
Lend me my eyes, I cannot see

AboutIt has been suggested that this song is about lost souls whom seek the guidance of Saint Lucy, a young Christian martyr and saint. Not much is known about her life, so naturally multiple legends have been created in an attempt to reimagine this highly regarded woman's life. One of those legends tells of how St. Lucy gouged out her eyes and gave them to an admirer who proposed to her in order for him to spare St. Lucy from defilement, since she had already consecrated her virginity and life to God. St. Lucy's Latin name, Lucia, shares a root (luc-) with the Latin word for light, lux. This has played a large part of St. Lucy being named as the patron saint of the blind and those with eye-trouble. The emblem of eyes on a cup or plate apparently reflects popular devotion to her as protector of sight, because of her name. In paintings St. Lucy is frequently shown holding her eyes on a golden plate. Lucy was often represented in Gothic art as holding a dish with two eyes on it.
