Lena Horne At 92 years old, the jazz singer & actress Lena Horne passed away on Sunday (May 9). In the 40's, she had become the first Afro-American star to sign a contract with Hollywood studios.

Lena Horne, born on June 30, 1917 in Brooklyn, had become the first Afro-American actress to sign with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in the 40's. in 1943, she played Selina Rogers in the musical "Stormy Weather".

After World War II, the singer joined civil rights, with Martin Luther King, during his march in Washington in 1963. She married a White man, Lenny Hayton, an arranger, knew a time in the wilderness & recorded some albums for RCA. In 1957, she got successful again thanks to the musical "Jamaïca". She played in films & musicals until the 70's. In the 90's, the singer came back with some albums for Blue Note.

3 years ago, a film about the jazz artist had been planned, with Janet Jackson, then Alicia Keys. To be continued...
