I'm finding my way back to sanity again
Though I don't really know what
I'm gonna do when I get there
Take a breath and hold on tight
Spin around one more time
And gracefully fall back to the arms of grace
'Cause I am hanging on every word you say
And even if you don't want to speak tonight
That's alright, alright with me
'Cause I want nothing more than to
Sit outside Heaven's door and listen to you breathing
Is where I want to be, yeah...
Where I wanna be...
I am looking past the shadows
In my mind into the truth and
I'm trying to identify
The voices in my head
God, which one is you
Let me feel one more time
What it feels like to feel alive
And break these calluses off of me
One more time
'Cause I am hanging on every word you say
And even if you don't want to speak tonight
That's alright, alright with me
'Cause I want nothing more than to sit
Outside your door and listen to you breathing
Is where I want to be, yeah...
I don't want a thing from you
Bet you're tired of me, waiting
For the scraps to fall
Off of your table to the ground
La Da Da La Da Da Da Da Da
'Cause I just want to be here now
'Cause I am hanging on every word you're sayin'
Even if you don't wanna speak tonight, that's alright, alright with me
'Cause I want nothing more
Than to sit outside Heaven's door
And listen to you breathing
It's where I wanna be, yeah...(x2)
Where I wanna be...
Where I wanna be...

vocal Wow...you are all idiots. I love this song, but it isn't a romantic song, it's a song about loving God...this is a basically Christian group...but you are all too stupid to realize that.

vocal I think that although this song has very real Christian undertones, it is still about a person. But i also interpereted it as a girl who has died that he still talks to because he was so in love with... because i want nothing more than to sit outside heavens door and listen to you breathing, is where i want to be.
i thought that the first verse was him talking about how he was just getting over her as well, but i dont know

vocal I can truthfully say that I really hope that there eran't any Christian ideas behind here, in my opinion music is too beautiful for that. And this song completely takes my breath away. Absolutely wonderful.

vocal I agree with 38flavors, you people were treating it entirely like a song to gawk over or listen to while on a date -.o but it is a Christian song, and it is abused just as much as Switchfoot's songs -.- I keep noticing a lot of people mistaking Christian songs for romance songs, they think when the singer says "you" or "you're" they're refering to someone like a girlfriend, little do they know it's God they speak of, and it's almost sad how people morph good Christian songs into things like that. This song is somewhat romantic in a way I suppose, as Heatherh stated, the song does seem to be about someone who passed a way, perhaps a girl he was in love with, and the devotion he has to that girl makes it a quite lovely song even for the mainstream crowd. I love this song very much and I've memorized the lyrics and sing my own version of it (since it's quite hard for a girl to sing in a guy tone lol) and have sang it on a few occasions to friends and etc... (and I don't sing that often o.o) There was one thing 38flavors was incorrect of, Lifehouse is not a Christian band, I've looked it up before, and they are simply a band whose members all happen to be Christians.
I agree with MOONANDBACK despite the capital letters.
One thing I love about Lifehouse's music is that although they're probably singing about God in many of their songs, they can interpreted to be about a lover, friend, family member etc.
They don't impose Christianity on their audience, and this is the only song I've heard from them in which they actually mention God straight out. ("I'm trying to identify/ The voices in my head/ God, which one is you?") But that doesn't necessarily mean that he's speaking to God, just like someone probably isn't when they say "God! That was horrible" or something.
I'm not Christian, so I like thinking that this song could be about a girl or a guy. I think I have that right.
* offtopic : 38Flavors, thanks for calling us all stupid. That was totally called for.
well, everyone's entitled to their own opinions about the meaning of the song, but if you want to know about Jasons meanings for the songs, go visit this site:
