(Loretta Lynn)
Well, I was born a coal miner's daughter
In a cabin on a hill in Butcher Holler
We were poor, but we had love
That's the one thing that daddy made sure of
He shoveled coal to make a poor man's dollar.
My daddy worked all night in the Vanleer coal mine
All day long in the field a-hoin' corn
Mommie rocked the babies at night
And read the Bible by the coal-oil light
And ever'thing would start all over come break of morn'.
Daddy loved and raised eight kids on a miner's pay
Mommie scrubbed our clothes on a washboard ever' day
Why, I've seen her fingers bleed
To complain there was no need
She'd smile in Mommie's understanding way.
In the summertime we didn't have shoes to wear
But in the wintertime we'd all get a brand new pair
From a mail order catalog
Money made from sellin' a hog
Daddy always managed to get the money somewhere.
Yeah!, I'm proud to be a coal miner's daughter
I remember well - the well where I drew water
The work we done was hard
At night we'd sleep 'cause we were tired
I never thought of ever leaving Butcher Holler.
Well, a lot of things have changed since way back then
And it's so good to be back home again
Not much left but the floor
Nothing lives here anymore
Except the mem'ries of a coal miner's daughter.

Hi, once again, i'm posting my own lyrcis to some of my favorite songs. Loratta Lynn is a great singer/songwriter. My father was a mushroom miner (they don't really mine mushrooms though, it's a goverment operation that no one is supposed to mention! Shhh...) The place is called the Mushroom Mines. So I wrote my own version for a Mushroom Miner's Daughter (Me!). So here it is:
Well, I was born a mushroom miner's daughter
In a cabin on a hill in Butcher Holler
We were poor but we had love
That's the one thing my Daddy made sure of
He picked mushroom to make a poor man's dollar
My daddy worked all night in the Goverment mushroom mine
All day long in the field hoeing corn
Mummy rocked the baby at night
Read the Bible by a coal oil light
And everything would start all over come break of morn
Daddy loved and raised four kids on a mushroom miner's pay
Mummy scrubbed our clothes on a warshboard every day
I've seen her fingers bleed
To complain there was no need
She'd smile in Mummy's understanding way
In the summertime we didn't have shoes to wear
But in the wintertime we'd all get a brand new pair
From a mail-order catalogue, money made by selling a hog
Daddy always managed to get the money somewhere
I'm proud to be a mushroom miner's daughter
I remember well, the well where I drew water
The work we done was hard
At night we'd sleep, cause we were tired
I never thought I'd ever be leavein' Butcher Holler
Well a lot of things have changed, since way back when
And it's so good to be back home again
Not much left but the floor
Nothing lives here anymore
Except the memories of a mushroom miner's daughter
When I first sang this for my mum, she started laughing histaricly!! Mostly because I was making fun of my dad. (Don't tell him though!) They have recently closed the "Mushroom Mines," but I hope my version of the song will help thoughs who know about it (which is supposed to be NO ONE) will remember it. LOL! I hope you got a good laugh out of it! Oh, and remeber to check out my other posts! I have posted a version of Lonestar's 'I'm Already There' and Julie Brown's 'The Homecoming Queen's got a Gun.' Oh. and happy Groundhog Day!! Remember to sing the Pennsylvania Polka at the top of your lungs!!
Lots of Luv,
A Mushroom Miner's Daughter,
