Lostprophets - ''Weapons"

Lostprophets Lostprophets have spoken about their new album 'Weapons' and have have described it as stripped of both "fat and gimmicks".

The follow up to 2010's 'The Betrayed' was released into shops on Monday (April 2) and the band will support it with a full UK and Ireland tour later this month. You can hear the record in full at NME.COM/news/lostprophets.

The album was recorded at Los Angeles' NRG Studios with producer Ken Andrews, who has previously worked with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. The band recently gave fans a taster of the new record with their comeback single 'Bring Em' Down'.

Speaking to NME in a video which you can by scrolling up to the top of the page and clicking, keyboard player Jamie Oliver said the band "stopped second guessing themselves" on their fifth album and distilled what's good about their sound down to its rawest place.

Asked about 'Weapons', Oliver said: "To me, this record sounds like the essence of the band without any fat or gimmicks. The reason we were able to do that is because we stopped thinking about it so much, we stopped second guessing ourselves."

The keyboard player then added that he believed the new album was packed with "party songs" and captured all the best bits of the band's back catalogue.

He said of this: "The record, by its nature, has captured all the elements from all the records we've done. It's got the bigness of 'Start Something, the experimentation of 'Fake Sound Of Progress', the pop sensibility of 'Liberation Transmission' and I think we're back to the days of party songs rather than singing about personal things."

He continued: "I feel that 'Weapons' has bridged the gap between when we started working in music and where we are now. All the essence of the band, all of our history, is in 'Weapons'."
