| The tenor died last night from an illness. In 2006, he was operated to remove a pancreatic cancer, but his health suddenly went bad yesterday. He was 71.
The opera singer died in the early morning in his villa, according to the Italian TV channel RAI. The news of his death was spreaded in Modena, and the policemen made a cordon around his house for the ones who wanted to pay homage, according to the same source. Luciano Pavarotti was in hospital on August 8 for a "fever state", and he left on August 25 to recover at home. A back operation and a pancreatic cancer in 2006 forced him to cancel dates of his goodbye tour, started in May 2004. Since then, he didn't appear on stage again. Early 2007, Pavarotti said he wanted to continue his goodbye tour but he didn't finish it. At the beginning of the summer, on Ischia island, his wife said that he was well and recorded an album. "We can't say a thing about his illness, but I think that Luciano will recover, he's fine. He finished the fifth chimiotherapy cycle, he didn't lose any hair and most of all, he didn't get slim" she said. He was considered as "the greatest tenor of the world" since Caruso's death in 1921.
