Malcolm McLaren Leader of the punk movement, rap starter, Malcolm McLaren is dead. Sex Pistols' former manager died on Thursday (April 8) of cancer in Switzerland, at 64 years old.

He was an impresario, a salesman, a fashion designer & a music producer. Malcolm McLaren died of cancer on April 8, in a Swiss hospital, at 64 years old. He participated to the start of British punk in the 70's. Making provocation an art, he was known for having launched the Sex Pistols.

Malcolm McLaren was born in 1946 in London. A rock'n'roll fan & art student, he rejected the hippy culture & loved the students' revolt in 1968 in France. He has been the manager of the American band New York Dolls. In 1975, he noticed a trio of musicians, The Swankers, later known as Sex Pistols. He met singer John Lydon aka Johnny Rotten & launched the band. Filled with provocation & politically incorrect, like their manager, the Sex Pistols got hits : "Anarchy In The UK", "God Save The Queen" & "No Future".

In 1978, he left the band & managed the band Adam & The Ants & Bow Wow Wow. He released his first album Duck Rock in 1983. "Buffalo Gals" & "Double Dutch" have been hits. He also released Fans (1985) & Paris (1995), with less success. He was also known as a rap starter. His last album Shallow - Musical Paintings came out in 2009.
