Each of Maurane's albums delivers a good time. The artist has been singing for 40 years, without aging. A feeling of deception often comes after too much time. For Maurane, we hope that the album will be good. Fais-Moi Une Fleur, released on September 5, is still faithful with its 12 songs. After the cover album Nougaro Ou L'Espérance En L'Homme, Fais-Moi Une Fleur proves that Maurane has other poems to sing. Perfumed by trees & colored by flowers, it shows the singer's come-back to her roots. The Belgian woman has started with jazz. A fan of this genre & of Brazilian music, she started singing in jazz clubs, in the Belgian capital. What remains ? The best & most of all, the saxophone on many songs. For "Mon Ange Veille", Maurane has been helped by the American tenor sax player, David Sanborn. They met each other in New York, where Maurane recorded her tenth album in 10 days. The other guest is Toots Thielemans, who played the harmonica on "Face B", contrasting with the singer's raspy voice. For the arrangements, Maurane also chose something simple. Few strings, except a violin & a viola for "Qu'Est-Ce Que Je Vais Te Dire ?", "Opus En Si Bel Homme Majeur" & "Péplum". The mandolin appears on the intro for "Je Me Sens Bien". The piano has been very used to compose this song & can be heard on most of the songs, like "Sous Le Tilleul". But horns are there too, because of jazz. Clarinets & trombones give rhythm to most of the songs, either melancholic or serene like "Fais-Moi Une Fleur". Watch the video for "Fais-Moi Une Fleur" here. The opening track invites you to Maurane's garden. She has been helped by many songwriters : Jean-Claude Vannier, Art Mengo, Brigitte Fontaine & Julien Clerc, who composed "Qu'Est-Ce Que Je Vais Te Dire ?". The Bruxelles-born singer also pays tribute to the late Henri Salvador in "Face B". But Juliette offered the best with a song about alcohol, "Le Diable Dans La Bouteille" : "This song is about both of us, Juliette & me. She told me that she put many alcohol names inside, but not Champagne because it's my little favourite" Maurane said. We'd get drunk with these lyrics & arrangements, but not with the artist's voice. No risk, no abuse. The album is filled with spring & ends with "Péplum", an autumn song.
