AboutMelanie Anne Safka-Schekeryk, credited mononymously as Melanie, was an American singer-songwriter, born on February 3, 1947 in Astoria, New York and dead on January 23, 2024. In 1971, she formed her own label Neighborhood Records with her husband producer Peter Schekeryk (1942-2010). They were married in 1968 and had and daughters, Leilah And Jeordie, and a son, Beau Jarred Schekeryk. For a time, at the beginning of her career, Melanie was a follower of Meher Baba.
