I guess no one really knows what this song is about huh? Some will probably know that James' mother died of cancer not too long before the Black album was recorded. His mother was a very religious person, therefore James somewhat expected God to save her and not let her die. When this happened, he became very upset, saying that her God failed her. Also hence the phrase "The healing hand held back by the deepened nail". The whole song is about this. It'll probably make sense now that you know what it means.. |

| Look Carabiniere, Anyone could look that up. And that isn't the only song about his mother and cancer. The altern-a-rock "Until It Sleeps" is also about his mother dieing from cancer.
