 4 posts | Album comment @ Congratulations Normally I wouldn't give 5 stars for all categories, but I sincerely believe this album deserves them. I think I've had a different view of MGMT than most others. I liked Oracular Spectacular's singles and heard them on the radio, but never took notice of the band and didn't hear or buy that whole album. I bought both albums at the same time, a few weeks after Congratulations was released. At first, I liked Oracular Spectacular better, but upon listening to Congratulations a few times, it grew on me. Congratulations would seem to go in a different direction as their first album. However, if you had listened to all of Oracular Spectacular, you could hear the psychedelic influence and wouldn't have been too surprised when this album came out. Overall, this album is amazing, and I look forward to MGMT's next self-titled effort, which is rumored to be coming out sometime next year. |

Most of the attention and popularity that MGMT has came from the three hit singles, (Time to Pretend, Kids, Electric Feel) and the rest of the album has often been overlooked. To me, the whole album is worth listening to, as each song is unique and has its own story to tell. I'd love it if everyone could listen to the WHOLE album and stop judging it by its singles. And to the hipsters, (if there are any of you on here) stop harassing the people listening to MGMT's "pop" songs too much, at least they're listening to a great band. |
