ötley Crüe have unleashed the sonic, epic soundtrack, Saints Of Los Angeles that is based loosely on the "The Dirt". The Crüe recapture the heyday of their youth, on Saints Of Los Angeles and bring you back to a time that was dangerous and alive with a vengeance! Nikki, Tommy, Vince and Mick take you back to where it all started, Los Angeles, the city of Angels. This album is the first release by the bad boys of metal in over ten years with the original line-up intact. In retrospect, you could say, the album was 27 years in the making, as it chronicles the bands rise to stardom.
The thirteen track CD, starts off something like the "Heroin Diaries" soundtrack, with spoken word, only this time by Vince Neil, as he segments back to 80's and says,”Welcome to Los Angeles". Let the party begin, as the album takes you back to The Whisky, a haven for many a 80's rock star back in the day. On the second track, Mötley Crüe pay respect to all the suits on, “Face Down In The Dirt", as the band would rather be dead then end up with a 9 to 5 day job.
"What's It Gonna Take", pays homage to the recording industry and the all of the trials and tribulations that the band encountered along the way. The song, “Down At The Whisky", is where it all began. As Vince sings,”Do you remember when all roads led to Hollywood? These tunes all feature the signature, catchy driving Crue chorus that have made their past hits famous. The Crüe know that their secret formula to success has always been to unleash melodies that evoke an infectious groove that sticks in your head. I would say all of the songs on, Saints Of Los Angeles find the band obtaining their goal with infectious melodies that laden the album.
One of my favorite songs is the first single, Saints Of Los Angeles. The infectious chorus that features all of The Crüe Fest singers chanting the chorus, "We are we are the Saints Of Los Angeles, can very well be the new anthem for this generation discovering The Crüe for the first time. This song has sort of a rebellious feel to it that have made listening to Mötley Crüe over the years ever so exciting!
"Mother Fucker Of The Year" captures the punk side of The Crüe at their best. The album also deals with the dark side of addiction. You may think that being a Rock star is glorious. Well, The Crüe can tell you first hand, living on the edge sometimes isn't pretty at all. As, dark and gloomy images and minor chord changes screams out loud in,”The Animal In Me".
Over the years, one of the exciting aspects of Mötley Crüe is that they just didn't just play metal. They combined their raw metal sound with a rebellious punk vibe that helped launch their songs onto the charts and last the test of time. "Chicks = Trouble", and "This Ain't A Love Song", and "White Trash Circus" have a thunderous rhythm section featuring bassist Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee and razor sharp guitar solos by Mick Mars that make Mötley Crüe larger than life. I have to compliment Mick Mars on his catchy solos, making every tune an adventure in itself. Actually, the entire band gives 100 percent on this album and it has to be one of the best Crüe albums that I have ever heard.
Just as the album ends with the song,"Goin' Out Swingin", Saints Of Los Angeles showcases the band as a unit and as brothers living their dream through the good, the bad, and the ugly. Although their lifestyle focused on fast cars, women and drugs, really what it comes down to today is, Mötley Crüe is all about the music, never giving up, and taking a stand in what they believe in. They were the voices of the 80's generation and still are just as big as they were back in the day. No other band from the 80's genre has that raw sensual appeal that Mötley Crüe so extremely possess.
Saints Of Los Angelessymbolizes their success and unity as a band, as they orchestrate their incredible journey through music. Mötley Crüe recapture the heyday of their 27 extensive career and lost innocence of their youth, as the bad boys of metal, "Kickstart Their Heart", and re-live the glory days that are ever so Raw, Riveting, and Rebellious. Living life large, MÖTLEY CRÜE, the heroes from the 80's generation orchestrate their live story in full Crue sonic techno color, never playing by the rules, and we wouldn't have it any other way. As Nikki Sixx comments to KNAC.COM." I think it's one of the best records we've ever done! It feels like a honest rock album to me." I can't wait to play these songs live. It is gonna be a summer of Excess!" |
