Well I'll be honest I was dying to hear new Nightwish stuff but I am so disappointed with this album. I never realised how much Tarja brought to the band. Dont get me wrong, I'm no Tarja apologist. She was a diva, but then what great opera singer isnt? Annettes voice is pretty and she can (almost) hold a tune. Her voice is more suited to pop than to Nightwish. Nightwish needed a bombastic, epic-sounding singer to go with their sound and Annette, lovely as she is, just isnt the right singer for their band. Eva is the best song on the album and even that was just barely listenable for me. All the other songs were so vile I had to turn them off. If nothing else Tarja could carry a song, even if the tune was bad she could make it seem good. Annette is just bland and she makes the whole album seem bland as a result. I mean she even looks bland; is she pretty or is she not? I cant tell!
With Tarja as vocalist this album might have been good, as it is its a huge disappointment and I will probably not be buying any more of their CDs | 27-10-2007 03:35 AncientPower | 1 posts

At first I was very excited for the release of this CD. Though unsure of how Annette would sound, I still was counting down the days until the release. Now that I actually have the CD, I'm really disappointed. Annette has a nice voice, but it isn't cut out for Nightwish. True, Tarja got herself fired, but I really miss her. Her voice was one of the things that drew me to Nightwish in the first place.
Other than vocals, I thought the CD was good, not extraordinary, but good. The lyrics were deep, like always. And the instruments were phenomenal. I have the 2 disc release, which includes the main CD, and then instrumental tracks of all the songs on the 2nd CD. Truthfully, I found the instrumental tracks 100x more enjoyable than the tracks with vocals. Sorry, Nightwish, the truth hurts. | 04-05-2008 12:22 allidie | 112 posts

I must in the less-vocal minority (or majority, who knows) who actually prefers Annette to Tarja. The number of good songs on the current album is a far greater percentage over the old albums. | 08-09-2009 14:45 Tektum |

Great album! The best one from Nightwish.
I think many think Anette is a bad singr because of Tarja. They want to hate Anette and support Tarja. But everyone should be open minded. I discovered this band after Anette joined the band and for that im glad, because I could be open minded. But I love Tarjas work in the band too.
(I think Tarja would left the band soon anyway because on the open letter it she said: "I don't need Nightwish anymore." and "Remember, Tuomas, that I could leave this band at any time, giving you only one day's warning in advance".
But Anette and her style really fits the band and they are gonna evolve into a even greater band.
Thank You, NIGHTWISH 3 |
