Song lyrics
Finally the hills are without eyes
They are tired of painting a dead man`s face red
With their own blood

They used to love having so much to lose
Blink your eyes just once and see everything in ruins

Did you ever hear what I told you
Did you ever read what I wrote you
Did you ever listen to what we played
Did you ever let in what the world said
Did we get this far just to feel your hate
Did we play to become only pawns in the game
How blind can you be, don`t you see
You chose the long road but we`ll be waiting

Bye bye beautiful

Jacob`s ghost for the girl in white
Blindfold for the blind
Dead siblings walking the dying earth

Noose around a choking heart
Eternity torn apart
Slow toll now the funeral bells

”I need to die to feel alive”

Did you ever hear what I told you
Did you ever read what I wrote you
Did you ever listen to what we played
Did you ever let in what the world said
Did we get this far just to feel your hate
Did we play to become only pawns in the game
How blind can you be, don`t you see
You chose the long road but we`ll be waiting

Bye bye beautiful

It`s not the tree that forsakes the flower
But the flower that forsakes the tree
Someday I`ll learn to love these scars
Still fresh from the red-hot blade of your words

...How blind can you be, don`t you see...
...that the gambler lost all he does not have...

I think this song is to Tarja. I think it has to do with how Tuomas felt about her change of attitude towards their music and such.
If it is about Tarja, then the line I find most interesting is "You chose the long road, but we'll be waiting." =S Still, its a great song!!

Anette and Tarja are both amazing singers and this song is amazing... i just didnt like the fact that the intro sounded a lot like the guitaring in Guns 'n' Roses song "live and let die" , it sounded too identical, otherwise an amazing song

Very good song. Really amazing. I wasn't a big fan of Nightwish when Tarja was the singer, but with Anette(is her name?) I'm really beginning to like them. I always had a bit of the idea that when Tarja was still a member of the band, it was fake. Their style, what she sang about, everything, I thought it was fake. Fake feelings. With Anette I don't have that. I really like them! Very big improvement for Nightwish!

This song goes to Tarja, or it is supposed to.
I dont like the intro much, it doesnt sound as powerful nightwish, it sounds like syntethic or something.
I really, really dont like how annette sings, in my opinion she sings like a cartoon witch, but i dont know how to sing so i dont have much right to judge her, still, i think nightwish died now, i used to think that keeping thuomas everything would be alright since he composes but, it isnt as great anymore.
Anyway the lyrics of the song do rock, and marco kinda tries to save it.

I have been a fan of Nightwish, for many years, and dearly miss Tarja Turunen's Operatic Soprano voice. I think i'd have to say my favorte song with Tarja is eather Nemo, off the Once album, or Sleeping Sun, off the Oceanborn album. The fist time i heard Nightwish, it was the song Nymphomaniac Fantasia, off the Wishmaster album, and i couldn't believe what i was hearing! So beautiful, yet it was metal, no doubt about that!
Well, time went by, and i was growing to love Nightwish, when suddenly i read on their web-site, Tarja was leaving Nightwish, i thought it was the end of one off the best bands out there!, but two years later, i hear this song, it sound like Nightwish....but...no, it's a bit different, so i search itunes for the song, and what do you know!....it IS Nightwish, with Anette Olzon as their lead singer! Soooooo different, like a New Nightwish. I like it, Anette has a beautifully dramatic voice. I think you can really hear it on Meadows of Heaven, but on Bye Bye Beautiful, it's a slight bit harsh, and thats not a bad thing, and is that Marco Hietala singing too? I LOVE it!! Bravo to Nghtwish, for coming threw for their devoted fans.

Well I thought Nightwish would never go mainstream-I was wrong-that new girl makes Britney Spears sound hard. Way to go nightwish

Yes, this song is about their over-rated ex-lead. In the words of wikipedia:

"Bye Bye Beautiful" is written by Tuomas Holopainen about the band's former vocalist, Tarja Turunen, who was dismissed from the band with an open letter in 2005, and his feelings before and after the time she changed her attitude towards the band and its music. This was at first rumoured among fans and later revealed by Holopainen in an interview.[2] The chorus also contains the lyrics “Did you ever read what I wrote you?/ Did you ever listen to what we played?” in which the first part is a reference to the lyrics written by Holopainen, and the second part is about her lack of dedication to the music.

However some say that "Did you ever read what I wrote you?" refers to the open letter. I guess both could be true, you'd have to ask Tuomas about that

I much prefer the more emotional, and natural voice of Annette to Tarjas' the over-trained screeches that she calls singing. In my humble opinion, when all you can hear is the formulaic recitation of words and not the feelings behind them then there is something very wrong.

This whole album seems to flow wonderfully. I don't know if I'm the only one that can hear the eased tention in the music composition.
