Really weird song at first but you get used to it. But have you seen the video? It's so gross.. And this is not one of the best of NIN's songs, I think.

This is one of the songs NIN is most famous for. It is certainly not the best, but not the best for Nine Inch Nails is still better than most songs today. The music video is...strange.

This is a kick @$$ song. It's got a cool beat, great lyrics, and still maintains the Nine Inch Nails type of music. Trent Reznor is a cool fucking artist. Considering what I'm into sexually, this is a great sex song for S&M. Torture, yay!

NIN are awesome. Closer is awesome. Even Deeper is awesome. I love NIN. People always ask and argue; "Who's better, NIN or Korn?" Well, definatley Korn. But I love NIN anyway.

The monotonous beat which I would have found annoying in most others songs is hypnotizing rather than irritating. Even though the magic monotony of the pounding electric bass, static-like snare and rapid high hat (which seriously sets the tone) would not detract from the quality of the song had it stayed the same throughout the entirety...it still switches up near the chorus and brings the beat full-circle in an amazing beat which even further hypnotizes the listener.

The music can be argued to not even be actual music, as the only recognizable instruments used are piano, guitar and some type of carnival-like pipe organ. However, in my opinion, Closer is a song that is far more musical than most: the way all the sounds and noise come together in such an attractively filthy way that the instrumentals are what make the song come together audibly.

The lyrics and vocals are a part of the song which separate it from being an amazing all-you-can-eat buffet of audio clips you can never fill up on to an emotional, mental and (depending on the person) sexual roller coaster. “Help me. I broke apart my insides...” “...I’ve got no soul to sell...” “...the only thing that works for me: help me get away from myself. I wanna fuck you like an animal.” These lyrics show the desperation and lust for the addressed in the song. Being in such a horrible place, only the absolute physicality of this one person can fix anything. “You can have my isolation...” “...you can have my absence of faith. You can have my everything.” These lyrics show his trust and perhaps love that still exist in the sess-pool of lust that has taken him over. Though he is ruled by his lust, he still trusts this person enough to give gifts which are mostly impossible to give, and he may be in love with this person as well, as the above mentioned gifts usually are not given only out of lust. The vocals Trent Reznor provides are a direct reflection and correlation to the lyrics. The vocal performance both on the record and in live concert are nothing short of a perfect shadow of the lyrics themselves. Gritty, yet beautiful. Harsh, yet soft. Loving, yet spiteful.

The video is less universal and more personal to Trent Reznor, and provides a look into his mind and what he was thinking when this song was first wrote. In other words, it’s fan-f*cking-tastic.
