An unprecedented album in every possible aspect, Trent Reznor proves his capabilities as a musical genius, masterfully weaving together the songs, each worthy of praise in its own right, into a single piece detailing the descent into madness. From Mr. Self Destruct, the voice inside our head which compels us to do wrong, to Hurt, in which the protagonist actually laments his own suicide after he has completed it, the album truly is The Downward Spiral, a journey that not many of us are able to take and walk away unscathed. My advice; Sit down and just listen to the entire album, from beginning to end. Only do so if you are of sound mind. It is an experience you would be loathe to forget. |
