Song lyrics
Jesus don't want me for a sunbeam
Sunbeams are never made like me
Don't expect me to cry
For all the reasons you had to die
Don't ever ask your love of me

Don't expect me to cry
Don't expect me to lie
Don't expect me to die for thee

Jesus don't want me for a sunbeam
Sunbeams are never made like me
Don't expect me to cry
For all the reasons you had to die
Don't ever ask your love of me

Don't expect me to cry
Don't expect me to lie
Don't expect me to die for thee

Don't expect me to cry
Don't expect me to lie
Don't expect me to die for thee

Jesus don't want me for a sunbeam
Sunbeams are never made like me
Don't expect me to cry
For all the reasons you had to die
Don't ever ask your love of me

Don't expect me to cry
Don't expect me to lie
Don't expect me to die
Don't expect me to cry
Don't expect me to lie
Don't expect me to die for thee

Now you started it, I do have some critic on your opinion, first of all, I don't think it's their best song, but hey, that's a personal matter, but however, your describement about religion and church is all wrong, I'm not a believer myself, but dude, if it's not your field, stay don't talk about it
and last (but not least): "GO KURT? YOU ROCK!"
you do realize he died over 10 years ago right?

PS: don't take it too personal, I'm just in a kinda arguey mood I guess
(although I specially registered to make this reply )

I grew up as a christian and started doubting and questioning everything related to religion when i got older.. if someone asks what my feelings are on religion, i usually tell them to go listen to this.

Who are we to question the others about their personal feelings and religion? I have my own beliefs myself and I'm pretty okay with any religion, so..... whatever

why do people make a big deal if people say stuff like GO KURT, YOU ROCK!

people realize he's dead, but that doesnt mean they cant still love the band and the music they made......alot of dead musicians are still loved for their music, and they should be! thats the good thing about it.....people die, their music doesnt!

i dont care if kurt's dead, i'm still a huge fan of Nirvana!

I personally love this song.

The first time I heard it a few years ago I was suprised at the unique sound of it. I love the accordian in it and Kurt's voice sets the perfect mood.

I love the deeper meaning of the song and since everyone else is talking about religion...

Well it sucks.

Nevermind,
Kate

this song is by the vaselines and so far no1 has started a discussion about their original. typically you posers would only know the nirvana one as nirvana are played more on the radio. this is a disgrace to both nirvana and the vaselines. if you like this one listen to the vaselines and then buy their cd! this is a perfect cover but someone needs to give recognition to the original artist.
RIP KURT

Ahh forgive me for I should have.

I love The Vaselines and I am very aware of the fact that they influenced Kurt Cobain.

For instance Molly's Lips...another wonderful Vaseline song and good Nirvana cover.

i think this is one of their best songs. i cant believe people havnt commented on it more. however, i dont think kurt meant for it to be a relgious tyoe song. i think there is a deeper meaning to it. kust never seemed to care for religion one way or the other so whay would he write a song about it??? i dont know..just an opinion.

Vaselines did it MUCH better...

Though Nirvana did fix Molly's Lips by turning it into a short punk blast rather than a weird jangly pop song with a bike horn.

i adore this song and i dont give a shit if its even the tiniest bit sacreligious because no religions make any sense anyway so nobody should try and defend them.

amazing song.

During two performances on November 13 and November 15, 1993, Kurt Cobain of Nirvana dedicated 'Jesus don't want me for a sunbeam' to River Phoenix (23rd august 1970 -31st october 1993). Kurt also dedicated the same song to River (among other celebrities who died young) during Nirvana's very last American shows in Seattle in January 1994.

Haha, you posers make me laugh.
you are so culturally deprived!

A REAL Nirvana fan doesn't say "best song ever" for every song they hear.

This is most definitely not their "best song ever".
because, one....it's a cover.

Yes, it does show the amazing talent the have, especially in using an accordian. haha.
but, not THE BEST.

and who the hell cares about your religious bullshit?
"i like this song...but i'm a christian" seriously? you could have left that tidbit out.

Yes, i am an atheist.
Yes, i'm obsessed with Nirvana, Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, David Grohl...and furthermore the Foo Fighters.

so, my opinions are bit biased towards unknowledgable people.
