Nolwenn Leroy - Biography

Nolwenn Leroy (real name Nolwenn Le Magueresse) was born on September 28, 1982 in Saint-Renan, France. Even if she stayed a little time in Britain, she was very attached to her Celtic origin. In 1992, her father, a professional footballer, left the family. Nolwenn, her sister & her mother moved to Saint-Yorre. At the same time, she started taking violin lessons. At 13 she won a contest & went to Mali during 10 days for a humanitary mission from Gao to Tombouctou. In July 1998, she was chosen by Vichy Rotary Club to study in the United States during one year, but her grandfather died in November the same year. Going to the States was a very important moment in Nolwenn's life : she wrote a song about it.
At 16, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Nolwenn spent 2 days in a Performing Arts School where her friend was a student. Back in France, she studied classical singing & gave up violin lessons. She studied in Vichy & at Clermont-Ferrand's Conservatoire but she wanted something more. In 2001, she went to Clermont-Ferrand faculty to study law, & at the same time she was a cashier on week-ends. She took singing lessons in Paris with Armande Altaï.
In 2002, she passed the casting for Star Academy second season. After 4 months in the TV show, she won in front of 1,000 people. The star-system story started when she released her first album, very successful, followed by concerts. Nolwenn was back with her second album Histoires Naturelles in December 2005. |
