"Musical genius and mastery in every aspect. Truly a pleasure to listen to."

"Easily one of their best albums yet."

Opeth never ceases to amaze me throughout their Damnation CD with hints of several different genres of music ranging from Jazz a la Windowpane, Death Whispered a Lullaby and Middle-Eastern influences with the unsuspected conclusion to Closure. Opeth has mastered themselves once again with a completely new take on their music, this time with an album completely consistent of softer melodies sans growls, and heavy-hitting beats. The album is lyrically written masterfully, with Akerfeldt, unsurprisingly singing with great skill, and lyrically impressing me all the way to Weakness. This album is bound to strike anyone's interest, regardless of preference or genre specifications. The music, strikingly, is so different from most of their other endeavors, and is one of their most bold projects ever. This is easily one of their most popular albums, attracting the not-so-avid Opeth fans, all the way to the die-hard metal heads and Opeth followers. With such unique sound throughout the whole album, Damnation is bound to appeal to listeners of all ages and tastes.
Aside from the fact that this album falls off the beaten path of their regular albums like Still Life (1999) and Blackwater Park (2001), Damnation accurately captures some of their memorable acoustic songs off the listed albums, and the discography is just astounding as are the cover works that Opeth uses every time, with fantastic results. Akerfeldt is by far one of the most well-known progressive models of the Stockholm scene, but his guitar work is second to none, and is always the highlight of the band's music with his amazing lead guitar work, and outstanding and original composition throughout Opeth's epic albums. Opeth is sure to appeal to many listeners of every kind throughout many ages, as they have become a standard for the Progressive label in American and Swedish music. With a hand-full of albums out already and more to come, it will be interesting to see how their music continues to unfold; especially if more deviations like Damnation continue to set new levels for Opeth in the future.
