when i was younger i heard the "you can call me al" single on the radio, loved it, and by christmas time my mom had gotten me paul's graceland cd.
I didnt like the cd at first, being young and ignorant on what good music was or wasnt. by my freshman year in college i re-discovered the audio tranquility of this album. I contend that it is one of the most diverse, unique and powerful cd's of all time. the incorporation of the african styled music and tropical tones, matched with paul's uninhibited ability to pick and pluck the most serene and soothing sounds that mirror ones life is impeccable. as far as creativity and soul, yes soul that is not incorporated with today's money driven music, this cd is on a different plane and makes this cd stand alone. If u like this cd u might want to also check out billy joel's river of dream cd. all hail paul simon.

Fullmoonfever sums up my own feelings regarding Paul Simon (as well as this song) perfectly- i even started with the Graceland CD, myself. "The Boy In The Bubble" was always one of my favourites, due to the intense thought and feeling that clearly went into the lyrics, as well as the easy-flowing quality present in so many of his songs, including this one. |
