Play - Biography

Play. What do you think of when you hear that word? Well, for most of us we think of the 'Swedish Pop Sensation'. Play is a group of 4 girls hailing from well, Sweden! They were put together in 2001, with the management of Laila Bagge. She worked at a dance school, and asked her student Anna Sundstrand if she'd like to be in a group. Of course Anna said yes. This was the beginning of an incredible singing group.
Not long after that, Laila asked Anais Lameche if she wanted to be in Play too - after seeing her in a musical. She later held auditions in Sweden and picked Rosie Munter & Faye Hamlin, who were already best friends and classmates.
They toured with Aaron Carter, playing in front of thousands of people and getting the exposure they deserved. Then Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen also had them in their movie, Holiday in the Sun. I think that's when a TON more people found out about Play. That's how I did!
Their self-titled debut album came out on June 25th, 2002. It was a 7 track CD.. and recently went gold!33 After 'Play', they went for the more mature look releasing Replay on June 10th of 2003, with the everpopular song "I Must Not Chase the Boys" (which was actually on TRL and being played on really popular radio stations!)
But in December of 2003, it was announced that Faye Hamlin wanted to leave the group to persue her goals of a higher education. Nobody had any idea of where the future of Play was headed. But thankfully, Janet Leon stepped into the picture. In March of 2004, Play put out another CD with Janet, called "Don't Stop the Music". It was almost like a tribute to Faye, and to us fans saying that no matter what they were not going to stop the music. They went on a big tour with Jump5, Stevie Brock, etc. called the "Spring Thing Tour".. which lasted the whole month of March.
In November of 2004 they put out a holiday album called Play Around the Christmas Tree, which featured songs like Silver Bells, The Christmas Song, and the most amazing rendition of O'Holy Night you'll ever hear! And in April 2005, Girls' Mind was released. It was a CD with songs from all of their previous albums, but didn't include Janet. It was all Faye on this one. Including Faye's version of Another Love Story.
In September of 2005, the girls of Play decided to go their seperate ways. We wish all the girls luck in their future!
